I have just bought a new computer with a RTX4090, currently using my old 27 inch1080 monitor.  I would like a 32 inch 4K monitor but know nothing about suitable specs i.e. refresh rate ect.  Can anyone offer some advice so I don't buy the wrong monitor for Flight Sim / DCS.

@GAJ52, the best monitor of that spec is the BenQ PD3200U. I’ve had mine for several years and it’s perfect.

A native 30Hz refresh rate, adjustable stand and accepts both HDMI and DP inputs.

is dcs the only sim you will use?  If you use other sims you may want to consider something with atleast gsync full compatibility.  It all depends on your usage though

No my main simulation is MSFS.

Just looked at a Samsung 32in 4k monitor from a large uk store and the reviews were 50/50 between very good and poor quality.

@GAJ52, what is the model number? Be very careful about choosing based on Amazon reviews. Independent reviews are the best.

I’m assuming if you’ve invested in a 4090 your budget is reasonably high for a quality monitor. It will probably last many years.

The BenQ also has two USB ports on the side allowing easy access for external drives etc. it’s a very well built display too.

Buy something with Gsync Ultimate - gives you virtually unlimited flexibility to set a locked framerate/frametime that works within the performance of the rest of your system and eliminates tearing and variable fps related stutters. Gsync also works well with the Lossless Scaling app and the auto-fps app. I did a lot of research before buying a monitor with hardware Gsync and ended up with the best hardware purchase I've ever made for flightsimming...AND, 30 Hz is too low and inflexible for your system which, if you bought a pc with a 4090, is probably pretty powerful and capable of way beyond 30 fps.

I agree on the gsync ultimate.  I've had various nice displays over the years.  But the gsync ultimate was a massive update up there with getting the 4090 itself.

I searched for Gsync Ultimate monitors and the top model came out as the Viewsonic Elite. What astonished me was the price!

Nearly three times what I paid for my BenQ 6 years ago. Are they really worth the enormous premium?

Until something better comes along I would not buy a monitor without Gsync to run MSFS.

I’m still unaware what you’re paying for with such an enormous premium.

I spent HOURS researching Gsync so here you go - all the info you could desire on the topic. I will tell you that if all your are ever going to do is lock at 30fps or use vsync to do same on a 30hz (lol) monitor setup don't waste your time or money.

What's your budget? I'd suggest an IPS panel. They're excellent at different viewing angles.

Personlly I have 2x Dell 32 4K UHD Gaming Monitor - G3223Q

4K, 32", 145Hz with G-Sync. Fantastic monitors backed by Dell's great warranty at a decent price.

Cheers,

Yes I believe gsync ultimate is worth the premium.  There is a reason for the expense.  Gsync ultimate have an actual physical hardware chip built into the display.  Not just a software type feature to accomplish the sync.  The other thing I would point out is to consider just how much inflation we've seen in the last 6 years.  So not totally an apples to apples comparison here.

Are you able to toggle that option off so a with / without comparison can be made to determine how many extra fps that feature provides?

I ask because at SimWings Heathrow with 150+ Ai and FSL Concorde I can just about achieve 30fps with my hardware with P3Dv5.3. Obviously you can't compare with Concorde but if you have a PMDG777 and use AIG Ai and a complex Heathrow what does your system deliver?

I've just checked the PD3200U and it still retails for the same price I paid 6 years ago.
