Hi all, Sometimes when fooling around, the things scream "Don't Think" at me similar to the "Pull Up" message when you are about to crash...What does this mean???Thanks!John

>it means that you are approaching to steep. Not quite."Don't sink" is triggered if you loose altitude after lift off i.e. when your vertical speed gets negative on climb out.The GPWS warning for a too steep approach is "Sinkrate!".Regards,Markus

It really does. I can't believe Boeing, or who ever did it, didn't do better. Like the guy has a lisp or speech impediment. LOLI like the female GPWS better anyhow. Like the MD-11.

Ho ho very funny ! As a matter of interest, does anyone know why an Airbus say 'Retard' - why not Brake, Stop, Decelerate or Slow Down?Sorry - forgot to add name againDave.PS Can I get this message thingy to put my name on automatically ?

There is a difference in thrust management between the two airplanes. On Boeings you have to push/move the levers in an analog way, symbolizing the amount of input you want to make to the EEC. Airbuses' levers only have 'detents' they are like a giant switch, which is telling the computer how to control the engines (in what mode). Now when you are descending in a 'Bus you keep the levers at the FLT detent, but when you reach your minimums, the voice reminds you to retard those levers to the landing roll position (I don't know what that is called)Cheers,

Thanks for your answer although I think you missed the (subtle maybe) point.I just wanted to know why the word 'Retard' was used rather than what it meant. Thanks anyway

It really does sound like 'don't THink'-almost macabre since you often hear it when you are too low to recover...

It was my first time with FlightGear last night and I heard what I thought sounded like a "don't think" (after hearing plenty of clear don't sinks) and thought it meant don't think about your impending merger with the ground :p

Kind of glad to hear it isn't a warning like that lol
